The Dow Jones industrial average (.DJI) fell 90.62 points, or 0.5%, to 18,025.22.

The S&P 500 (.SPX) slid 9.06 points, or 0.43%, to 2,112.18.

The Nasdaq Composite (.IXIC) lost 14.53 points, or 0.28%, to 5,118.42.


In Europe, the pan-regional FTSEurofirst 300 index (.FTEU3) rose 0.34% to close at 1,529.65 but Germany’s DAX (.GDAXI) fell 0.54%. The main European indexes trimmed gains in late trade as U.S. stocks reversed some of the previous day’s sharp advances and the expiry of June stock options added to market volatility.
